The ninth of December 2021 is “The Day of the Truck Driver”, a day to celebrate truck drivers and their essential contributions to our daily lives.
Ziegler Group decided to support Febetra’s initiative to honour road drivers. So, on “The Day of the Truck Driver”, we’re rolling out our “green” carpet to each driver who comes to one of our Belgian branches and serving them breakfast with unlimited drinks!
Throughout the pandemic, truck drivers have been on the frontline more than ever. So it’s an excellent opportunity to put them in the spotlight today.
Without these men and women who put their heart and soul into their work, packages carrying so many essential goods would not be delivered.
Thank you so much to all of our truck drivers!

On Wednesday 20 October 2021,  our Airfreight team received a “Special Request” from the organizer of a legendary electronic music festival. The Belgian pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai needed a full DJ set packed, customs cleared and delivered in only four days!

Ziegler’s specialists immediately consulted Emirates Cargo, and then wasted no time fulfilling this “Special Request”. Thanks to the enthusiastic involvement and teamwork of Ziegler’s employees, the mission was a success, and the butterfly-themed DJ set was transported from Belgium to Dubai on time and without issue!

The DJ set is a perfect example of a Belgian-specific export product. The set arrived in time to welcome the best DJs whose mixes will be entertaining the parties at the Belgian pavilion until the end of Expo 2020 in Dubai in March 2022.

Ziegler Group has been in business since 1908 and is still growing, that is why we are looking to onboard and welcome new colleagues.

So last week we organized our first Job Day at Ziegler Zaventem in Belgium.

It was a great opportunity to meet many people who are interested in working for Ziegler. And for candidates, it was an opportunity to get to know the company better and talk to our managers in person.

We had a great time meeting our future colleagues and we are looking forward to organize another Job Day soon.

If you were unable to come, don’t hesitate to contact us at  hrbelgium@zieglergroup.com

Did you know that the Ziegler Group participated in the Ekiden Marathon together with a loyal client – a well-known aid organization?

After a one-year break, this major Brussels event was held again on October 16, 2021, a marathon relay that took place inside and around the King Baudouin stadium in Brussels.

Taking inspiration from similar Ekiden relay races held in Japan, each year almost one thousand teams usually participate in the Brussels relay event. Teams consist of six participants. The first, third and fifth runners each complete 5 km, the second and fourth runners each run 10 km, and the last runner covers the remaining 7.195 km. In total, the team runs a distance of 42.195 km – the length of a traditional marathon. This relay marathon is unique and exciting for everyone involved.

The emphasis on team spirit motivated Ziegler Zaventem to participate as part of a team building activity and this marathon was a unique opportunity to work together to reach this great achievement.

Among the 600 teams that participated, Ziegler outperformed expectations by surpassing 400 teams!

Congratulations to the entire team, well done!

FORWARD Belgium, the Belgian Freight Forwarding Association, a professional association that represents the interests of the Belgian shipping industry (formerly VEA) presented its first awards for sustainability achievements on November 16, 2021.

The association had launched an awards programme called “FORWARD Goals for Sustainable Development” to encourage its members to invest in green and sustainable solutions and to contribute to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015.

FORWARD members who are awarded the FORWARD GOALS distinction are able to demonstrate to their clients that they place a high priority on sustainable entrepreneurship and using the latest best practices for lowering the environmental impact of transport.

Symbolising sustainability and ecology, the FORWARD Awards are made of wood.

Not only did Ziegler win the Gold “FORWARD Goals for Sustainable Development” label, but also received a second special “Sustainability Award” for our Cargo Bike and innovative city logistics solutions.

These two awards are undeniably a recognition of our initiatives to intentionally implement green logistics practices and become a model of good environmental methods in our sector. And we look forward to doing more!

Ziegler Group Unveils Cargo Bikes for Last-Mile Deliveries in Brussels.

On Friday, September 3, 2021, Diane Govaerts, CEO, and Alain Ziegler, President of the Ziegler Group, welcomed Elke Van den Brandt, Minister of the Government of the Brussels Capital Region, responsible for Mobility, Public Works, and Road Safety to the Ziegler Group headquarters in Brussels on the occasion of the official presentation and launch of the Ziegler’s Cargo Bike XXL.

The event brought together some fifty personalities, including representatives of the City of Brussels, customers, and partners within Ziegler’s network who are at the forefront of ecology and sustainable development and who can testify to the Group’s ambitions in the field of renewable energy.

Diane Govaerts, first of all, cited the Group’s initiatives to reduce its ecological footprint thanks to the “Ziegler – Now even Greener” program.

Johan De Brauwer, Country Manager of Ziegler Belgium – Luxembourg, explained that the idea of the Cargo Bike was born in November 2020 during a brainstorming session dedicated to the theme of last-mile delivery and sustainability, the premise being that vehicles intended for urban distribution should become smarter, cleaner, quieter and smaller in order to improve the quality of life of the city, its inhabitants and its businesses.

The Cargo Bike is an already well-known concept and the Group immediately wanted to distinguish itself from other logistics players by offering a Cargo Bike large enough to make many more deliveries in one day than a distribution truck.

Specially designed for Ziegler, the Cargo Bike XXL offers a payload capacity of 500 kg / 4.3 m3 in the form of a 6.5 m tri-bike and trailer.

On January 30, 2021, the project was presented to the Brussels Capital Region and the City of Brussels and received their enthusiastic support.

In June 2021, the first experiments were successfully launched from Ziegler’s Brussels facilities, Vilvoordsesteenweg for distribution in the city center of Brussels.

From the outset, this pilot project aroused the interest of a large audience and generated high levels of engagement and support on social media.

In order to make even more stops and deliveries and to be closer to the city center, a partnership was established with the Interparking group to create the first microhub in the center of Brussels, in the Albertine parking lot near the Sablon. An electric truck shuttle connects the main platform with this microhub. From there, the Ziegler Cargo Bike operators load their trailers for their morning trip. In the afternoon, they return to load their second round.

In this way, the Cargo Bike XXL from Ziegler Group can make up to 50 stops a day, while a conventional distribution truck makes an average of only 25 stops a day.

Several Cargo BikesXXL will gradually be deployed in Brussels and the handling of small parcels will be entrusted to partner Urbike.

The Cargo Bikes XXL will also take the used packaging of the delivered goods which will then be sorted by Ziegler, always in line with Ziegler’s sustainability strategy.

This concept will be replicated in other cities in Belgium, starting in Bruges, Knokke, and followed by Antwerp, Ghent, and Leuven. And then in many different European countries where Ziegler Group is based.

With the Cargo Bike XXL, Ziegler intends to contribute to smart and more sustainable urban logistics The slogan “Ziegler – Now even Greener” has never been more relevant.

Although we are all responsible to work together to reduce emissions and improve the environment, changes that logistics companies can make are especially significant due to the nature of our industry. As technologies are developed that make it possible for us to make those changes, we are determined that Ziegler Group will be at the forefront of our industry in this area.

We strongly believe that small, everyday actions such as reducing office paper consumption are just as vital as the large undertakings regarding fleet investments and company infrastructure.

This is why we have launched the ‘Ziegler. Now even greener’ program. By integrating our environmental initiatives, we can transform our organization more seamlessly and efficiently while multiplying the positive effects for the environment, our people, and our company.

We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, and we thank everyone who has somehow facilitated, encouraged, and contributed to these activities. But, this is just the start of the transformation we envision. We will accomplish much more together!

We would like to introduce the Ziegler Sustainability Report, which gives an overview of how Ziegler Group is currently taking specific actions to make positive contributions to the environment.

The Chinese New Year – and the Year of the Ox – is just around the corner.

It is the most significant and the longest holiday in China celebrated also in a large part of Asia, what people celebrate the beginning of the new year with their families.

This new year will start the year of the Ox, which is a valued animal in Chinese culture. It stands for confidence, dependability, strength, and determination.

This year Chinese New Year 2021 falls on Friday, February 12th, 2021, and celebrations culminate with the Lantern Festival on February 26th, 2021. Celebrations last up to 16 days, and the first 7 days are considered a public holiday (February 11th–17th, 2021).

This national public holiday has consequences on global supply chains. For 2 weeks, the various European and Chinese ports will be impacted by a large influx of goods. Due to the festival, there will be a closing period for manufacturing industries. The Ziegler offices in China will be closed for the Chinese New Year holiday from 11.02 till and included 17.02.2021 (Hong Kong from 12.02 till 15.02), therefore, there will be no shipments from China for at least a week.

Nevertheless, we hope and will make every effort, that the celebration of this important holiday in Chinese tradition will not affect the smoothness of our operations and service to our customers.

On behalf of Ziegler, we wish you all a lot of health, strength, success, and a peaceful Year of the Ox.
